Bedensville Schoolhouse

The Bedensville Schoolhouse was built in 1853 on a tract of land, in Montgomery Township, once known as Bedensville. It is now operated as a living history museum by the Van Harlingen Historical Society.

The nineteenth century one-room schoolhouse, which was built in the Dutch style, fell into disrepair early in the 20th century. In 1975, the Montgomery Bicentennial Committee organized an effort to relocate the structure to its current setting on the grounds of the townships elementary school.  Through the hard work of the Bicentennial Committee, the Van Harlingen Historical Society, and local residents, the school has been accurately restored.

Please join our resident school marm for a lesson in ciphering. Take a seat at one of the wooden desks, grab your quill pen, and practice your best penmanship. Docents will be available to answer question and demonstrate how to roll wooden hoops.
