The Daniel Robert House, constructed in 1888 for a wealthy business man from NY, was recently listed on the National and State Registers of Historic places. Designed by architects Lambert and Bunnell of Bridgeport, the house is a faithful replica of an Alexander Jackson Davis design. It is a quintessential Gothic Revival residence with picturesque asymmetrical massing, steep and varied roof lines, pointed arched openings, brownstone detailing and gothic motifs. With the exception of a rear wing, which was damaged by fire in 1967, it retains the majority of its original detailing. As a Gothic Revival example, it is architecturally significant; its association with Davis further adds to its significance. The building is currently Somerville Borough Hall. |
