South Branch School House

The South Branch School, was built in 1870 in the rural Italianate style for the purpose of educating children in grades one through eight from the surrounding areas of Branchburg and Hillsborough townships. This school house is noteworthy for being the last one-room school house in use in Somerset County (1965.)

Famed opera star and Edison protégé, Anna Case attended school here, as did Marion Van Fleet, the mother of actor Lee Van Cleef.
